Description: Chinese stringed musical instrument similar to cymbals. It is used for accompaniment in performances of Chinese opera, theatrical productions, as well as an ensemble and solo instrument. The instrument comes from the Persian hammer dulcimer - santoor. The body of the yangqin is trapezoidal in shape and is made of hardwood. Several steel strings (mostly bronze) are stretched over the instrument. Yangqin is installed on a special stand. Sound is produced by striking bamboo mallets. On the yangqing, you can play chords of two or more notes. The popularizer of the instrument in the West was the member of the Dead Can Dance group Lisa Gerrard, who uses yangqin in many of her works.
